I enjoyed this book that was begun by Jane Austen, and never finished until recently, by Jennifer Ready Bettiol. It is a short story, and even Jane Austen's writing is not as polished and refined as in her completed books. But it is still worth reading (it is still Jane Austen). Bettiol's writing just doesn't compare at all to Austen's, but in fairness, whose writing can? I found her completion of the story to be rushed and very simplified, but it did have fun twists and unexpected but believable happenings. It felt a little bit like reading the Cliff Notes of a novel.Product details

THE WATSONS by Jane Austen Completed by Jennifer Ready Bettiol edition by Jane Austen Jennifer Ready Bettiol Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I read Jane Austen's The Watson and wasn't satisified with the ending but Jennifer Ready Bettiol did more than justice in completing this story. It was well written and it kept me engrossed on what was going to happen next. This is far better than Sandition.
It is a dud. I am a strong fan of Jane Austen. Her works are superb. But this one does not measure up. A waste of time to read.
This review is from my wife This book, The Watsons, didn't seem as good as other Jane Austen books I've read. It didn't seem like a true Jane Austen. Fell short of Pride and Prejudice for example. It could well be due to fact that the book was not entirely written by Jane Austen. Even so, I read the entire book and didn't abandon it part way through.
The writing is filled with distracting grammatical errors, sometimes necessitating re-reading the "sentence." However, the reference sites in the forward are worth the ninety-nine cents.
I liked it, but I wish she Jane Austen had been able to finish. So far I like the ending that Jennifer Ready Bettiol wrote for the Watsons.
Not worth the time, poor plot device, inadequate or no character development, no atmospheric elements or scenic expressions. Why bother?
How can I comment on the authors' writing when one is Jane Austin and the other isn't? Not by a long way. Jane's book has been completed by someone who hasn't got to grips with Jane's style, Jane's plots, or Jane's characters. Not worth reading - just as one has got interested in how on earth it's all going to resolve itself, it stops. Nothing more to say.
